011 / KAKOLANMÄKI endurium / TURKU (Suomi Finland)

Endurium is een inzending voor een competitie voor herbestemming van het Kakolanmäki-gevangeniscomplex, gelegen op een groene heuvel middenin de Finse stad Turku. Opgave is om woningen te realiseren en met ideeën te komen voor een nieuwe bestemming voor het complex. Een reeks met in lengte oplopende woongebouwen is ontwikkeld met appartementen variërend van 14 tot 25 meter breed. De woningen zijn maximaal op de omgeving georiënteerd middels een doorlopende, alternerende veranda met verdiepingshoge schuifpuien. De gebouwen zijn op 'pilotis' rond het bestaande complex gepositioneerd. Voor het bestaande complex is een aantal uiteenlopende publieke functies voorgesteld attractief voor zowel inwoners als bezoekers van Turku.

Endurium is an entry for a competition for redevelopment of the Kakolanmäki prison complex, situated on a green hill in the Finnish city of Turku. Assignment is to achieve dwellings and come up with ideas for a new destination for the building complex. For the housing, a series of longitudinal ascending buildings is developed with apartments ranging from 14 to 25 meters wide. The houses are oriented at the environment by a continuous, alternating veranda with high floor sliding doors. The buildings on ‘pilotis’ are positioned on the hill around the existing complex. For the existing building complex, a variety of public functions are proposed, attractive for both residents and visitors of Turku.
